Outdoor swimming, surfing, wildlife discovery, rock climbing, mountain biking, bird watching, Scouts, Guides, DofE to caving and canoeing - can an outdoor activity change a life?
Has your life changed for the better? - because a local club or someone else opened the door to a lifetime passion outdoors that has made you:-
So please – tell us about it, YOUR STORIES - by email, share on the Super natured Facebook page or in the blog below. We don’t mind whether you’d like to share these publically or be a little more anonymous (i.e. first name from Lincoln).
We'd love to feature photos & videos for those happy to share!
YOUR STORIES are needed to inspire others, funders, social & health services to see the value of funding these sort of opportunities for those that may benefit most.
* Little long-term research exists to validate what we know happens through the hard work and dedication of many clubs, their volunteers, coaches and others -We know that these sort of opportunities frequently act as a catalyst to radically change the direction of someone’s life – but we need to prove just how much and often this happens.
More and more young people aren’t getting the opportunities to try activities that could transform their lives, as youth services dwindle and public services are continually cut.
Young people are spending more time indoors - than ever, at a screen and sometimes for a variety of social or economic reasons they just won’t get, or don’t think they deserve to have an opportunity to try inspiring, life changing exhilarating activities outdoors.
We know these opportunities can provide a catalyst to change a life for the better, whether it’s becoming more active, mentally healthier, growing confidence, personal and social skills, to greater environmental awareness and action.
These gifts often aren’t limited to the activity, but once experienced – applied to other parts of a persons life, helping them grow, broaden their aspirations and their own view of the possibilities that life has to offer.
PLEASE HELP US collect a huge, compelling bank of evidence – so that we (and other organisations we work with) can provide examples to justify funding and support for opportunities for a new generation to experience a range of what’s on offer - on their doorstep, locally throughout England & Wales.
We’re a very new charity which aims to fund opportunities for many young people to try a range of outdoor activities and opportunities to positively engage (sometimes for the first time) with the natural environment on their doorstep.
We are currently working with a wide range of partners to arrange taster programmes. The key difference from many individual centre or outward bound opportunities is that we're not just providing things to try, but doing it with local clubs and organisations that can provide each participant with the ongoing support to nurture them in the way they need - once we've ignited their interest.
Taster programmes planned for Autumn 2017 and Spring 2018 are in the South West of England. We intend to grow this work across England & Wales in the future - for young people who wouldn't otherwise have those opportunities.
