HAPPY IN MUD

Prozac may not be the only way to get rid of your serious blues. Soil microbes have been found to have similar effects on the brain and are without side effects and chemical dependency potential.

Natural remedies have been around for untold centuries. These natural remedies included cures for almost any physical ailment as well as mental and emotional afflictions.

Ancient healers may not have known why something worked but simply that it did.

Modern scientists have found that
there’s a natural antidepressant in soil? It’s true. Mycobacterium vaccae has been found to mirror the effect on neurons that drugs like Prozac provide.

The bacterium is found in soil and may stimulate serotonin production, which makes you relaxed and happier.

Studies were conducted on cancer patients and they reported a better quality of life and less stress.

Lack of serotonin has been linked to depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and bipolar problems. The bacterium appears to be a natural antidepressant in soil and has no adverse health effects.

These antidepressant microbes in soil may be as easy to use as just playing in the dirt.

Mycobacterium antidepressant microbes in soil are also being investigated for improving cognitive function, Crohn’s disease and even rheumatoid arthritis.

The
Antidepressant microbes in soil cause cytokine levels to rise, which results in the production of higher levels of serotonin.

If you inhale the bacteria, have a lot of contact with it and get it into your bloodstream when there is a cut or other pathway for infection. The natural effects of the soil bacteria antidepressant can be felt for up to 3 weeks.

So get out and play in the dirt and improve your mood and your life.

Please note - we do not agree with the way some of this research may have been conducted.

BENEFITS OF BIRDSong

A study by the Department of Psychology at the University of Surrey revealed what amazing benefits birdsong can have on our everyday lives.

Already used in hospitals and airports to lift moods and raise awareness, birdsong is one of nature's most beneficial gifts that many of us take for granted.

The sound of 2-minutes of birdsong to start your day, can make you feel refreshed and vitalised.

Stress relief - As we are instinctively programmed to trust that birdsong means safety, only changing to harsh alarm calls if a predator is around. It has been proven that birdsong induces the instant sensation of calm and relaxation.

A casual stroll or a light jog in the park surrounded by the harmonic tones of birdsong can leave us feeling refreshed and revitalised, helping to relieve the body of tension and encourage mental positivity and well-being.

Improve focus and awareness - Birdsong can also be used to help stimulate cognitively whether to improve concentration in the workplace or personal projects at home. The natural sound of birdsong helps us to remain awake and alert during the hours of sunlight.

A study in Liverpool examined the effects of the 'post-meal slump' on school pupils after lunch-time. The period in which blood sugar levels begin to drop after a big meal causing drowsiness is known to have a profound effect on concentration levels in class after the lunch period. Yet, since been introduced to a soundscape of birdsong, resulted had shown that their concentration levels had dramatically increased.

Natural birdsong is so effective as it is stochastic - meaning there is no repeating rhythm and is impossible to get a particular tune or pattern to focus on, ''It doesn't get stuck in your head or annoy you but it doesn't lull you to sleep and bore you either''.

Therapeutic - Introduced to busy airport terminals, commuter trains and hospitals, the general calming sound of birdsong is believed to generate a therapeutic atmosphere. Recordings of birds singing are just as effective as hearing birdsong naturally out in the open.

''I'm not sure there is any other sound that can do what birdsong does. It should be part of the soundtrack to everyone's day.

SEA helps sleep

The smell of the seaside is caused by dimethyl sulphide gas, given off by the sea, and not ozone (a form of oxygen). Getting a lungful at the beach will help you sleep better.

This is because sea air is full of negative hydrogen ions, charged particles abundant in sea spray and concentrated in fresh air, which improve our ability to absorb oxygen by neutralising damaging free radicals (positive ions).

These negative ions can also balance levels of seratonin, the feel good hormone, making us less prone to anxiety.

Sea air may also make sufferers of cystic fibrosis (CF) - where thick mucous clogs the lungs - feel better. Researchers at Ben-Gurion University in Israel discovered that CF patients exposed to air at the Dead Sea (which has a high oxygen level) ended up with more oxygen in their blood, which improved their breathing.

According to Dr Eldar Berkovits, a member of the research team, the extraordinarily high concentration of minerals found in the Dead Sea's mud, sulphur pools, thermonuclear springs, and in the surrounding atmosphere, also aided the breathing of patients with respiratory problems and pulmonary disorders.
